Cheryl Bradshaw, a single woman looking for a groom on the popular 1970s TV show, chooses charming bachelor Rodney Alcala, unaware that behind the man’s gentle facade lies a deadly secret. The comment about Cheryl’s breasts was “taken verbatim from something that happened to me when I was 19”. Near the end of the movie, her name is written as Cheryl in one of the stories that reveal what happened after the movie.

In fact, her name was spelled as Cheryl, which was correct on the cast list. Well, Cheryl, it’s time to make a decision! Mentioned in CTV News in Six Toronto: September 8, 2023 episode (2023).
The music and cinematography are impressive and engaging, and the script is well-crafted and character-driven
Otem Best easily delivers a standout performance in Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut, but Daniel Zovatto as serial killer Rodney Alcala is also utterly terrifying. I understand that this is WELL based on the true story of Alcala’s crimes, but the author(s) were a little creative with the true story (the character “Laura” (played by Nicolette Robinson) never existed, Rodney was bachelor number one, not number three etc.). I also could have used a little more backstory on him and how he became such a monster.

All in all, it was a tense, interesting and rather disappointing look at what has to be one of the strangest serial killing cases of the last 50 years. I see good prospects for Anna Kendrick’s directorial career. The final season of What We Do in the Shadows is one of the biggest premieres on TV and streaming this month.
