In New York, in the Manhattan area, they are several numbered "Avenues" which are criss-crossed by smaller numbered streets.. I think this will be an entertaining show. We’re used to thinking that anything with Stallone in it would be a comedy these days, and Tulsa King packs a punch. But Taylor Sheridan isn’t going to make a simple parody of a mobster story and use Stallone as a joke and punchline.
The characters are genuinely likable across the board
The show has a promising depth to it, despite the frivolous premise that a former big-time mobster is forced to make a new movie. start in a new city after a long prison sentence. There’s some comedy as a New York mobster finds his way to Tulsa to make his turf using his “old world.” in ways. While it’s not unusual to root for a "bad" guy as the main character, his directness and old world common sense values appeal to those looking for something refreshing amidst the social nonsense of today.
Stallone gives a great performance
The irony of the message is that it takes a villain who bows to no one to break through and expose shallow social hypocrisy. It’s the same formula that made Yellowstone so successful, and Sheridan knows it’s what many of us want. Before he became a caricature in his later roles that fueled the Rocky and Rambo franchises, it was his acting and screen presence that created these iconic roles. It’s good to see him back on screen in a role that seems perfect for him and to use some of that cheeky personality to add depth to his character and the show instead of undermining it.
Overall, a very entertaining show that I’m looking forward to and a great addition to the Paramount+ portfolio
