This is Michel Hazanavicius’ first animated film
A poor woodcutter and his wife live in a vast forest during the war. One day, the woman finds and rescues a girl, bringing irreversible changes to the lives of the couple and those who cross the child.
It tells a story that takes place in Poland during World War II, like a folk tale
This is the best release of 2024 I have seen so far this year and it is out in mid-December 2024. Most of the plot takes place in a forest, typical of the aforementioned folklore, and revolves around a pair of woodcutters who adopt a Jewish girl who is thrown off a deportation train through their forest.
On the technical side, everything is done perfectly
She was thrown by her father to save her from certain death in Auschwitz. I won’t go into the plot details, so you can see them for yourself, I just want to add that the film reaches a deep philosophical conclusion.
The visuals of the film are very well done
The style of the drawing is perfect, not too detailed or too rough, showing scenes with dark lighting with predominantly gray shades, which emphasizes the horror of the most infamous war and genocide in human history. Then there is the soundtrack, which is sublime: the soundtrack, the sound effects, the narration and the voice acting (I saw the original in French), all of which are fully suited to presenting this gem of a film.
